Last night Melky Cabrera of the San Francisco Giants was awarded the MVP award of the MLB All-Star game. He is the 12th Latin American born player to do so. Cabrera ironically was a former Kansas City Royal, who hosted this year’s All-Star game. Story is the fans and team didn’t want Cabrera back on the team…the Giants did, then he gets voted on the all star team and wins MVP in his former town. When presented the MVP award he brought out his family and thanked everyone in English though you could clearly tell there was a language barrier. In this clip Cabrera speaks on the experience of winning MVP in Kansas City with Pedro Gomez, who translates to make it a bit more comfortable. Language barriers or not, it’s easy to see the huge latin influence in America’s favorite past time. Hit the jump for the clip.
