Empower more women. That’s what the 44th President of the United States says. “Women in particular, by the way, I want you to get more involved. Every day I read the newspaper and just think, like, ‘Brothers, what’s wrong with you guys? What’s wrong with us?’ We’re violent, we’re bullying. Just not handling our business. I think empowering more women on the continent, that … is going to lead to some better policies.”
During a town hall meeting at the African Leadership Academy in Johannesburg, South Africa, Barack explained how to combat what he calls “strongman politics”. He could not have been more correct.
Women in America also seem to echo his sentiments as a record breaking 575 women declared their intention to run for offices ranging from Governors to Senators according to Politico. Women make up more than half of the U.S. population but are still woefully underrepresented in politics.
The time for change is now.
