The day before releasing his debut album, Kendrick Lamar with Yahoo! decided to have a crash concert in his hometown of Los Angeles. He did it in front of the Staples Center as people were exiting an NBA preseason matchup between the Los Angeles Lakers and Los Angeles Clippers. Before the game ended a large number of Kendrick’s fans turned out in the middle of downtown to get a good viewpoint. Kendrick performed a few songs before the police showed up to shut things down. Helicopters, riot patrol and assault rifles all showed up in an attempt to “control a hostile” crowd…but if you watch the video you’ll see a diverse gathering of people enjoying music together. A great day for hip-hop and the city of Los Angeles.
