We’ve all seen the Jeremy Lin story whether we’re die hard basketball fans or not. We’ve seen the good and bad sides to the acceptance of Jeremy Lin in the NBA and the questions it has raised, both on and off the court. Well no matter your feelings, Lin has graced the cover of SLAM as the first Asian-American to do so. On top of that he’s wearing a Knick uniform, which represents the city many regard as the basketball Mecca of the world. The discussions that can start from this cover alone are endless. For the same issue there is an alternate cover featuring Minnesota Timberwolves Kevin Love (a descendant of the Beach Boys) and Ricky Rubio (the rookie sensation from Spain) in a very hip-hop styled presentation. If you’ve been reading the magazine for a long time you recognize the iconic cover this is inspired by. Though SLAM isn’t a hip-hop publication, it’s angle is more urban than a Sports Illustrated. It’s interesting to see these players grace the cover and how it’s presented overall.
