Speaking of the darkside of the Olympics, triple-jump champion and Greek representative Voula Papachristou will not travel to London anymore after tweeting a “racist” joke recently. We’ll let you form your own opinions about social media and athletes, racial humor/sensitivity, and consequence…but what we would like to discuss is how in things like Olympic (and other international) competition, are there racist undertones in the competition itself that we usually deny or glance over? In many of these competitions people are looking to represent their country and prove their country is in fact batter than another country. As for some individuals these games allow people to share cultures from all over but for others it is a playground to really show their content for other cultures.
