There has been a lot of controversy on twitter about Taylor Swift’s new music video. Many people are upset at the portrayal of 1950’s colonial Africa. They are disturbed at the fact that even though it is a video about Africa, there seems to be a lack of people of color.
Director Joseph Kahn has said that
“The reality is not only were there people of colour in the video, but the key creatives who worked on this video are people of colour.”
Kahn also stated that the intent of the video was to strive towards historical accuracy, and that is the reason why the number of black actors in the video was low. Read more here.
