It’s been months since rumors and discussions began between Marvel and “Creed” director Ryan Coogler to helm “Black Panther,” but it’s finally official. The upcoming Disney/Marvel pic with Chadwick Boseman toplining as T’Challa has confirmed its first African-American director.
Following the critical acclaim for his work on 2013’s “Fruitvale Station” and “Creed,” Coogler is one of the hottest directors in Hollywood at the moment. The film is set for release on February 16, 2018, but we’ve already caught a glimpse of Black Panther in the “Captain America: Civil War” trailer.
Marvel president and producer Kevin Feige said:
“We are fortunate to have such an esteemed filmmaker join the Marvel family. The talents Ryan showcased in his first two films easily made him our top choice to direct Black Panther. Many fans have waited a long time to see Black Panther in his own film, and with Ryan we know we’ve found the perfect director to bring T’Challa’s story to life.”
