Kendrick Lamar is still hot off of his March 15th release of his third studio album “To Pimp A Butterfly”, and is arguably the best rapper in the game right now. However, this world renown artist now has some major legal issues to worry about.
Italian photographer Giordano Cipriani is suing K. Dot for using his photo of an African mother breastfeeding two children to promote the single “The Blacker the Berry” without permission. Cipriani claims that neither Kendrick nor his label were given the rights to use the photo, and is suing Kendrick Lamar, Top Dawg Entertainment, Interscope Records and Aftermath Records for quite a bit of money.
Cipriani is demanding that he be paid $150,000 for EVERY time the photo has been used and for all of his lawyer fees. The photographer is also requesting an injunction on Kendrick that would stop any further use of the photo.
Legal issues are no stranger to the hip-hop game, so let’s just hope Kendrick is able to handle this situation cleanly.
