As the sport of basketball continues to grow globally, Nike looks to involve itself more and more in various countries. We’ve seen the tours their athletes like Kobe Bryant and LeBron James have done over the last few years in the Asian markets so it only makes sense that Nike also makes stops in the European markets. Nike has been doing interactive events with their new Nike+ technology and shoes and last week they brought the fun to Germany with a 5 on 5 Basketball tournament. To take it up a notch they brought German NBA superstar Dirk Nowitzki to hang out and participate. Things like this usually push health and exercise as well as improve the sport locally as Dirk touches on in the recap. Do you think these types of events will eventually evolve into people of these countries competing against each other and being able to connect with other cultures that they wouldn’t be able to compete against unless they were playing for a college or professional team? What does this do for Nike as a global brand? What does this do for the sport and culture of basketball globally?
