The biggest Asian female rapper known simply as CL, is growing her popularity and extremely well known in the Asian American community, especially among millennials. CL continues to grow her name by performing with top hit makers like Diplo, who called her the “the Nicki Minaj” of K-Pop.
Known as a rock star in her native South Korea, CL is changing the Asian stereotype and redefining the views of women in the Asian community. CL recently told Billboard magazine that she “want[s] to tell the world that there are some badass Asian female girls” and is filling up arenas around the world with her energy and message. Most recently she performed to a packed house at the Alexander Wang after-party and shows a clear sign of jumping into the English-speaking market.
As CL continues her venture into the American market, she continues to share her Korean roots by mixing her songs and appealing her Korean-American fan base. She cements her cross-cultural appeal by finishing her show with her hit song “Hello Bitches” and has the entire room counting to three in Korean – “Hana, Dul, Set … BITCHES!”
