The age old, inaccurate stereotype of African-Americans not being able to carry a show or movie and crossover into international success has plagued the black community for generations. It has taken money out of the pockets of African-American actors and has been responsible from withholding them from opportunities.
In 2018, we’ve seen an all-black cast break countless records as the Marvel film Black Panther shot up into the top 10 highest grossing films of all time. Denzel Washington continues to defy Father Time with the Equalizer franchise, and Vin Diesel is the face of the 6th highest grossing movie franchise ever with Fast and Furious, topping the X-Men and Batman movie franchises. And let’s not mention the guaranteed box office hit maker that is Dwayne Johnson; it just wouldn’t be fair to the detractors.
