Adidas Pushing to Redesign all ‘Racist’ Native American Mascots

An estimated 2,000 high schools in the United States have Native American mascots. With the White House Tribal Nations Conference currently taking place, Adidas has sent executives to join leaders from the 567 recognized Native American tribes at the conference in D.C. with President Obama.

The sports company, which will have executives in attendance at the White House Tribal Nations Conference, has also said it will be among the founding members of a coalition that seeks to change Native American mascots in sports.

The symbolism of Native American mascots in sports, is a hot topic in a nationwide debate. Many people have said that the type of imagery currently in place exploits racist Native American stereotypes. Read more here.
